A 1:40,000-scale map of the popular Barron/Achray area on the east side of Algonquin Provincial Park. Home to the 100-m deep Barron Canyon, this section of the park also includes the Berm Lake Trail and the Eastern Pines Backpacking Trail. Use this map to plan a paddling trip along the Barron River, or the Grand, Stratton, St. Andrews, Opalescent, or Sec Lake canoe routes.
Also on this map, the "cheater" path to the High Falls. You won't find this trail/canoe route on the standard Algonquin publications. Don't let the name fool you... the hike is 5+km long, and climbs 140 meters. Definitely not an 'accessible' trail for anyone with physical limitations. Estimated hike time is 2 hours at a good pace to get there. Slightly faster on the way back because it's all down hill. Well worth the hike though... You'll find an oasis in the forest with an array of rock basins where water spills from one to the other like teacups... there are rocks to jump off of, shallow water to sit in, a gentle waterslide with a rope to pull yourself out, and a series of 'grottos' to play in. No privies. Bring a lunch.
